About Lucuma Fruit

Lucuma fruit (also called lucmo or eggfruit) grows on the lucumo tree, which is native to South America. Known as the "Gold of the Incas," the fruit is grown in Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. It has soft yellow flesh, a dry texture, and a hard green shell, with an appearance somewhere between an avocado and a mango. Elsewhere, lucuma powder (or flour) is often sold in health food stores, but it can be expensive. The powder is made by dehydrating the fruit and then grinding it into a fine powder, a process designed to preserve the fruit's high nutritional value. It can be stirred right out of the package into food and drinks.

What is Lucuma Powder?

AOGUBIO organic lucuma powder is a low-sugar sweetener and can be used as a substitute for sugar. It pairs well with caramel, chocolate, and most kinds of fruit. It can be used in dessert and other baked goods, and in Chile, lucuma is the most popular flavor of ice cream.
Lucuma Organic Powder smells divine and has a creamy, citrus flavour. Lucuma Powder is a versatile and delicious ingredient and a source of vitamins and minerals. It contains vitamins B1, B2 and B9, phosphorus, proteins and fibers. Lucuma has the same amount of calcium as a glass of cow’s milk, as well as plentiful amounts of beta-carotene (an anti-carcinogen), zinc, iron, vitamin C, niacin (B3), and fiber. It also contains 14 essential trace minerals.

What Does It Taste Like?

Naturally creamy and sweet, lucuma has more of a subtle sweetness than sugar. The taste is often compared to maple, butterscotch, or brown sugar, and some brands have a nutty flavor.
